All of these tasks can cause unnecessary stress. However, there are some easy ways that you can save yourself some anxiety. Next time you have to take a business trip, try these simple ways to reduce your stress.

1. Make All Your Reservations Beforehand

Hotel and flight reservations are obvious choices for making reservations before you leave. However, you can book your rental car and even a restaurant—if you have to take a client out when you arrive—online before you leave the comfort of your office. Having these items taken care of can help you feel less stressed when you arrive at your destination. Everything will be prepared and waiting for you.

2. Make a To-Do List

Feeling pressured to accomplish a multitude of tasks often causes anxiety and traveling just adds to it. If you are feeling stressed because of the amount of work you have to do while on your trip, taking five minutes to make a to-do list can help you feel better. This short time allows you to take a mental break and get specific about what you actually need to accomplish. Try breaking down each item into small, easy goals and check each item off as you go to help you feel a sense of accomplishment.

3. Laugh It Out

Surprisingly, laughter is one of the best ways to help you relieve stress and feel more relaxed, as it increases the flow of oxygen to your brain, heart, lungs, and muscles. This helps your body to relax, making you feel less stressed.  Laughter also releases endorphins in your brain that improve your mood. While you are in the airport or hotel, try watching a funny video, or ask your colleges or clients if they know any jokes—it will be worth the laugh.

4. Take Some Time for Exercise

Since exercise releases endorphins in your brain and body that make you feel happier and more relaxed, it makes sense that exercise is influential in reducing stress. While you might not want to take a break from your work on a hectic business trip, you can still get some time in for exercise. Consider waking up early to utilize the exercise facility at your hotel, or walk a few blocks to sightsee in the city you are visiting. This can help you feel less stressed as you continue on your trip.

5. Breathe Away Your Troubles

Another effective way of reducing stress is breathing deeply, as this increases your intake of oxygen and relaxes your muscles. Try taking a deep breath and, as you let it out, imagining that everything causing you stress is going with it. After doing this a few times, you will probably begin to feel better. The best part about this stress reducing activity is that you can do it anywhere—in a plane, train, car, office, or restaurant!

These are just a few of the easy ways that you can combat stress during your next business trip. While these tips may not totally take your stress away, they can definitely help to reduce it. Next time you travel for business, keep these ideas in mind to make your business trip a great experience.
