Airport Tricks and Secrets

flight tricks

If you are a frequent flyer, you know there are times when airports are a huge inconvenience. However, because flying is a necessary way to travel, you might as well learn some of the best airport tricks and secrets to make your time easier, more enjoyable, and less expensive. Remember, no matter how much you prepare for a flawless trip by booking in advance or scheduling a St. Louis limo company for transportation, unexpected things happen.

Airline Vouchers

If you get bumped from a flight due to overbooking, the first thing the airline will do is offer you a voucher. However, under compensation rules set by the US Department of Transportation, you can be compensated up to $1,300 in cash if plans to rearrange your flight are not completed within a two-hour window of your original flight time.

In fact, airlines are required to inform you that they can cut you a check right away. In addition, if a new flight is not scheduled between one to two hours of your scheduled arrival time when travelling on a domestic flight or one to four hours for an international flight, the airline is to compensate you 200 percent of the one-way fare for that destination, with a cap of $650.

Most Economical Days to Fly

Another airport trick is that you can save significant money simply by flying on the right days. Of all days of the week, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday are the cheapest. On these days, fewer business travelers fly. Therefore, it is common for airlines to have extra seating and lower fares.

No-Charge Cancellation

Typically, you have up to seven days to cancel or change an airline ticket before being penalized, with the exception of American Airlines, which gives you up to 24 hours before flight time. If you purchase a ticket directly through the airline, you are allowed “buyer’s remorse” up to a full day.

Delayed Baggage

If your baggage is delayed, as opposed to lost, most airlines will offer you between $25 and $50 a day for the inconvenience. However, when traveling on business or taking a specific type of personal trip such as meeting friends to ski or going somewhere to be married, airlines actually owe you as much as $3,000 in liability for a domestic flight. The only caveat is that you must provide receipts proving the value of items in your baggage.

Enjoying Easy Transportation

While not so much a trick or secret, for stress and hassle-free ground transportation, your best bet is to hire a professional St. Louis limousine service. With a professional St. Louis limo service, all the challenges from the airport fade away.
