Finding a Venue and Beating the Heat in St. Louis

Summer is a magical time in St. Louis. With the gorgeous and lush scenery all over the city, it’s no wonder that summer is such a popular time for special events. Weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, bar mitzvahs, and so many other big events are celebrated during the summer. With the sun shining and the birds chirping, hosting your special event outdoors is the perfect way to take advantage of the beautiful summer scenery. The first step to throwing an incredible event in St. Louis is to book reliable car service to get your guests to your venue and back. Speaking of venues, choosing the perfect spot for your event should be easy, as there are many gorgeous parks and gardens that make idyllic venue spots. All you have to do is find the one venue that is perfect for you.

Choosing from the Dozens of Outdoor Venues

The Missouri Botanical Garden founded by Henry Shaw, is one of the most beautiful outdoor spots in the St. Louis area. It is famous for its brilliantly manicured lawns and stunning flowers and fountains. In addition to the garden, it is also home to the beloved Butterfly house. There is truly no more gorgeous a spot to host a wedding than at the Botanical Gardens.

Another stunning outdoor venue to consider is the historic Jewel Box found in Forest Park. Built for the 1904 World’s Fair, it is one of the only structures built for the exhibition that still remains standing today. The gorgeous glass green house provides a wonderful shelter while still letting the outside in through the windows. Additionally, the building is surrounded by gardens, ponds, and lawns.

The one downside to hosting your event outdoors during the summer is dealing with the St. Louis heat. During the latter half of the season the heat and humidity can make standing outside for a long period of time seriously uncomfortable. However, there is no reason to let the heat keep you from enjoying the event that you so desperately want. There are plenty of steps that you can take to keep your guests cool during the summertime.

Keep Your Guests Comfortable in the Hot Weather

Firstly, the time of day can make a world of difference. Once the sun goes down, the weather outside becomes much more bearable. It’s best to plan your outdoor event so that it will begin at twilight. Starting your event around 7:30pmwill give you plenty of time to enjoy the last hour of sunlight while the temperature steadily drops. If you choose a venue a little bit outside of the main city, you may even be able to experience a gorgeous canopy of stars once the sun sets.

Hosting your event during the evening isn’t always possible. If you are in a position where your timeframe is limited to the afternoon, there are still some steps you can take to battle the weather. Offering your guests some shade can go a long way in battling the heat. Instead of hosting an event at a park with no covering, try looking for a place with a nice pavilion. Another option is to rent tents for the afternoon under which you can set up tables and chairs. Many rental companies can also provide tents that can be set up with fans or misters to keep the air circulating and provide a cool sanctuary for your guests.

Finally, one of the most important steps you need to take to keep your guests cool is to provide plenty of cold refreshments. In the summer heat, it is very easy to become dehydrated, especially if there is going to be alcohol served at your event. To combat the heat, keep a steady stock of ice, water, tea, and other beverages that will keep people hydrated. It will not only keep everyone healthy in the heat, it will also help to cool people down.
